I’m working on a project with Michael Bodel, choreographer and Casey Cole, vocalist. It’s a piece for movement, live vocalist, puppetry and pre-recorded score. Guess which part I’m in charge of.
It’s been an interesting experience so far. Casey is singing parts of the arias, etc from the Bellini opera of the same name (this piece is very loosely inspired by the original) and so I’m left to write around her, around alot of the things she has already learned, and her and Michael have decided to do. I’m coming in relatively late in the process – still not last minute which is nice – so I’m doing equal parts playing catch up, making artistic decisions and suggestions which might have been made early on, and developing parts of the piece as we go.
Below are the vocal-less recordings of the first two sections. Instrumentation is guitar, celesta, organ, and strings. They’re un-mastered / compressed, so they’re a bit quiet.
